According to my Bible, the world named us Christians at Antioch, evidently by the people, not God.
Acts 11:26 ISV (26) When he found him, he brought him to Antioch, and for a whole year they were guests of the church and taught many people. It was in Antioch that the disciples were first called Christians.
It was a term, possibly of disrespect, given by the world and carries with it the implication of ownership and destiny. It is a name not recognized as given by God anyplace else in the Bible. We have no evidence that He would recognize and accept us from this name we have adopted. Knowing God is vital to our salvation, but it is equally essential that God knows you.
Matthew 7:21-23 ISV (21) “Not everyone who keeps saying to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will get into the kingdom from heaven, but only the person who keeps doing the will of my Father in heaven.
(22) Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, we prophesied in your name, drove out demons in your name, and performed many miracles in your name, didn't we?'
(23) Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Get away from me, you who practice evil!'"
Today is the day of salvation. Seek God’s identity, position, and destiny as a child in His family and violently seek God’s Kingdom and righteousness now. God is jealous of His children and names them Himself.
Ephesians 3:14-15 ISV (14) This is the reason I bow my knees before the Father of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah,
(15) from whom every family in heaven and on earth receives its name.
