The Poison of Knowledge

God was very explicit when telling Adam the dangers of consuming knowledge. This activity brought death to humans.

Genesis 2:16-17 KJV (16) And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

(17) But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

The produce or fruit of this tree poisoned the human spirit by replacement. Man shall live by faith; the knowledge replaced faith and broke man's life-giving connection with God. If we eat of knowledge rather than the spirit, Jesus, we shall surely die.

John 5:39-40 AMPC (39) You search and investigate and pore over the Scriptures diligently, because you suppose and trust that you have eternal life through them. And these [very Scriptures] testify about Me!

(40) And still you are not willing [but refuse] to come to Me, so that you might have life.

We must come to and stay with Jesus to have life. Jesus admonishes us not to eat of the scriptures because they contain the knowledge that brings death. Instead, we are to go to the Lord and receive the spiritual food of faith, which gives life. It is one of the functions of the Holy Spirit to reveal the understanding and wisdom of the truths found in the Bible. God is our source of life, and only the Holy Spirit can reveal and build our relationship with Him.
