The Tree of Life vs. The Tree of Knowledge

The Tree of Knowledge was given to us by God. However, God forbade us to eat from that tree because it would result in our death. He gave us the instrument of our death and a suitable warning not to feed from this tree. God desired for us to have free will and be able to choose life or death. Therefore, he also gave us the tree of life. Eating from this tree would lead us into eternal life with God.

Today, God has given us the Bible. The book and its leaves contained the knowledge of good and evil provided by God and produced from a dead tree. So the choice is again before us. Which tree should we feed from? Do we choose life, or do we choose death?

Jesus speaks very plainly about these concepts.

John 5:39-40 AMPC (39) You search and investigate and pore over the Scriptures diligently, because you suppose and trust that you have eternal life through them. And these [very Scriptures] testify about Me! (40) And still you are not willing [but refuse] to come to Me, so that you might have life.

I believe the Lord was evident in His explanation. If we use the Bible to find knowledge (good or evil), we will die. We must come to the man Jesus to get life. God wishes and will only accept intimacy from us through Jesus.

As we kneel before Him at the cross and accept Jesus into our hearts, we must also profess Him as our savior and Lord. Jesus then becomes the High Priest of our profession.

Hebrews 3:1 KJV (1) Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

Jesus transforms that profession into our identity as we profess our relationship with God. After that, we should continue our confession regularly until we know we are one with Him.
